Kratos Ballistic Missile Target Supports Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System Exercise

SAN DIEGO, May 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that Kratos' Space & Missile Defense Systems (SMDS) Division successfully supported the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the U.S. Army as they successfully completed a tracking exercise involving the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system. The test identified as Flight Test Other 35 (FTX-35), was conducted on April 6, 2018 using a Short Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) target, developed by Kratos and its Government and industry partners.

The Kratos single stage SRBM target was launched from the southern end of the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) in New Mexico before it was acquired and tracked by the THAAD system. The target flew a nominal trajectory until it impacted on the range as planned. THAAD is an element of the U.S. ballistic missile defense system designed to defeat short- and medium-range ballistic missiles in the terminal phase. This highly successful mission was also used to demonstrate interoperability between the THAAD and Patriot ballistic missile defense systems.

The SRBM target featured systems developed and manufactured by Kratos. In addition, Kratos personnel participated in mission planning, flight performance safety analysis, rocket and payload assembly, payload testing, vehicle build-up and launch operations in support of the successful target launch. Kratos is an industry leader in the rapid design, development and fielding of technologically advanced, affordable systems. Kratos SMDS is a leading provider of products, solutions, and services supporting ballistic and missile defense, hypersonics, Aegis, AMDR, sounding rocket, directed energy, electromagnetic railgun and other national security and scientific programs.

Mr. Josh Peterson, Vice President of Kratos’ Space & Missile Defense Systems Division, stated, “We couldn’t be prouder of the contribution our Kratos team is making to the National Defense by providing the most responsive, reliable and affordable target systems available to test our Nation’s ballistic missile defense assets. Kratos is committed to enabling robust testing of our country’ s ballistic missile defense systems by providing the most capable and lowest cost target solutions to the U.S. DoD.”
