Ukrainian state-owned railway confirms "large-scale" cyberattack

(MENAFN) Ukraine's state-owned railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, confirmed Monday that its online services were targeted in a "large-scale" cyberattack.

In a statement released via Telegram, the firm reported that restoration efforts have been underway since Sunday, with specialists working alongside the Ukrainian Security Service's cyber division. The company assured that the cyberattack did not succeed in disrupting railway services.

Ukrzaliznytsia stated that it had carried out backup protocols in response to previous cyberattacks, presumably by Russia, which Ukrainian authorities frequently refer to as "the enemy." The company described the recent attack as "very systemic, non-trivial and multi-level."

The attack has resulted in the unavailability of online ticket sales, with the firm currently operating offline. Ukrzaliznytsia had initially reported a "technical failure" on Sunday, without specifying the cause.

The incident underscores the ongoing cyber warfare component of the conflict in Ukraine, with critical infrastructure remaining a key target.
