SYDNEY, N.S. — Nine Cape Breton players will suit up for AFL Atlantic at the Australian Football Pony Platter Tournament in Ottawa this weekend.
Members of the Sydney Giants including Chris Bourque, Sam Florence, John Grechuk, Chad Green, Anuj Mathew, Colin MacNeil, Sean MacNeil, Patrick McNeil and Sandy Warren will be part of the club attending the event.
In 2022 and 2023, players from the Giants and the Halifax-based Dockers teams formed the Nova Scotia Lions to compete in the tournament. This year, players from the Saint John Bulldogs and Cornwall Tigers will join them.
AFL Atlantic will be joined in the tournament by the host Ottawa Swans as well as the Edmonton Wombats, Boston Demons, Montreal Saints and Toronto Rebels.
The Atlantic side will play three round-robin contests on Saturday, beginning at 10:45 a.m. against Montreal. The team will also play Boston at 1:05 p.m. and Toronto at 4:05 p.m. All start times Atlantic.
The top two teams will advance to the championship game later in the day at 5:30 p.m.
Other members of the Atlantic team include Halifax’s Myles Amirault, CJ Brassington, Anthony Fable, Tim Froese, Aaryn Hayes, Rob Inkpen, Andrew Irving, Vincent Laforest, Baxter Madore, Eric Martin, Warren McDougald, Ian Oyler, Jonah Scott, Devon Theriault and Miguel Veillette.
Saint John’s Steve Weaver Crawford, Costa Kolyvas, Amir Norouzi and Nick Rahavi as well as Cornwall’s Ben Garro and Lincoln Maskey will also play on the team.
