The Centre is planning to make six crore people in rural areas digitally literate under Prime Minister digital literacy programme, said Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad at the 5th edition of the Global Conference on Cyber Space 2017 which kick started on November 23.

At the two day event, hosted by India this time, Prasad said: "Under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMG DISHA), we are in the process of implementing the world's largest digital literacy programme under which 1 crore people in rural backward areas have already been made digitally literate and another 6 crores will be trained in the next two years."

Talking on 'Cyber4Growth: Transformed role of Governments-Regulator to Enabler' leading to technology-led inclusive and sustainable growth, Prasad said: "In India, we are trying to create inclusive, safe and secure cyber space for sustainable development. The focus is on looking beyond mere digitisation to digital technologies as means to empower people."

To make governace easily accessible to people and provide high quality digital delivery of services, Prasad said, UMANG app will provide hundreds of government services to citizens through their mobile phones.

On Cyber Diplomacy, the Minister said: "In this new world order, collaboration and cooperation among nation States is entering into a new phase. There is already recognition for such cooperation in areas like cyber defense and cyber security. However, rules of engagement relating to international concerns, including cyber warfare, cyber espionage, cyber crime need to be evolved".
