It is important to find ways to honor those who sacrificed their lives protecting us while we enjoy simple pleasures like a Monday off work and an outdoor barbeque.”

BAITING HOLLOW, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, May 25, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Howard Wool of Environmental Safety Inc. will be enjoying time with his family in Baiting Hollow on Memorial Day, but he will also be honoring the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers who gave their lives for our country. He believes in supporting organizations that help soldiers and their families and urges others to do the same.

Choosing a charity to support
Announcing from Calverton on Long Island, Howard Wool suggests that before holiday fever takes hold, people who would like to support causes should take some time to investigate various charities and find out whether the money is actually going to the cause being supported. Some services, such as Charity Watch, Wise Giving Alliance, and Charity Navigator, give information about the management, functions, and finances of charity organizations.

Support deserving charities
According to Charity Navigator, one of the organizations deserving of support is the USO (United Service Organizations). It is a nonprofit organization that has over 200 centers worldwide and has provided entertainment and care packages for soldiers and their families for many years.

Its services include family crisis counseling, support groups, reading rooms and libraries, free internet and email access for soldiers. It also partners with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). TAPS provides a grief counseling referral service, crisis intervention, and a national peer support network.

Another worthwhile charity suggested by Charity Navigator is Wounded Warriors Family Support which helps the families of those who were wounded, injured or killed in combat.

The Navy/Marine Core Relief Society is a charity with nearly 250 offices at bases all over the world and provides financial assistance and education to members of the Navy and Marine Corps as well as eligible family members, widows, and survivors.

There is even a Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund that offers emotional, financial and educational support to families affected by a severe disability or loss.

Amongst all the many organizations looking for donations for this purpose, most people are likely to find at least one they can confidently support.

Other ways to honor the fallen
People can volunteer to lay flowers or flags at a veteran or local cemetery. They can pay a visit to aging veterans in the community and ask to hear their stories. They can volunteer for organizations that honor and advocate for veterans and families that have lost loved ones. These organizations will often hold events to help offset financial costs and raise awareness.

Howard Wool of Baiting Hollow believes it’s important to find ways to honor those brave men and women who sacrificed their lives, giving us the freedom to enjoy simple pleasures like a Monday off work and an outdoor barbeque.
